Maastricht University (MU) was founded in 1983 and has been ranked in 2018 the 5th best young university in the world (Times Higher Education '200 Under 50'). MERLN Institute for Technology-Inspired Regenerative Medicine was established in 2014 as part of the Maastricht University Medical Center (Maastricht UMC+) and MU where it maintains a leading position in the field of biomedical engineering, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. The MERLN institute is composed of three departments that conduct research and training with an interdisciplinary group of principal investigators that focus their research at the interface between technology and biology. The MERLN institute has state-of-the art laboratories including biofabrication, microfluidics, chemistry, polymers, material, microscopy, clean room (ISO 5 -7), three ML-II tissue culture and wetlab equipped with high-end equipment. The MERLN institute has also high-performance computational infrastructures, data management and analysis.
